Design Manager - Maynooth, County Kildare

Design Manager – net zero and sustainability Planning, Design, Manufacturing & Operations

The design manager will report to the Director of Design & Innovation and will develop as well as deliver the net zero carbon strategy, gaining a strong external profile and credibility.

 

Key responsibilities and duties

Support the organisation to ensure processes are in place to achieve Group Net Zero targets including embodied carbon calculations, building life-cycle assessments, climate risk assessments, biodiversity net gain calculations, circular economy impacts and Taxonomy compliance

  • Apply knowledge to drive best practice design and innovation solutions to meet the company’s Net Zero & Sustainability targets, with a focus on the evolution of our housing and apartment products to ensure we achieve our company targets
  • Focus on identifying alternative building fabrics that can also be installed within a factory environment
  • Engage with suppliers, vendors and contractors, relating to environmental and sustainability material performance and improvements and report on progress made
  • Work closely with the ‘Innovation Project Manager’ regarding continued research to identify sophisticated, revolutionary means of construction and M&E solutions
  • Work closely with the ‘Standardisation Project Manager’ ensuring solutions identified are compatible with our 2D panellised and future 3D volumetric product, focusing on increasing productivity
  • Lead the development of effective partnership relations with key industry stakeholders in the environment and net zero carbon sectors as well as other public sector bodies. This will require careful management of sensitive points or conflict and the negotiation of innovative solutions acceptable to a wide range of interests
  • Close collaboration with the Sustainability team and Strategic Company Research & Development working group to achieve approved targets which form part of the Group’s overall Sustainability Strategy
  • Other ad hoc duties that the Company may require from time to time

 

 

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, architecture or similar
  • Demonstrable knowledge of building materials, embodied carbon, resource management and biodiversity
  • In-depth understanding of the design and delivery requirements of technically complex projects engineering/construction sectors
  • Understanding and knowledge of sustainability, carbon management and climate change policy and associated science and legislation
  • Experience devising and implementing measures to reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability performance
  • Experience in turning strategy into deliverable programmes
  • Competent in AutoCAD and BIM
  • Understanding of embodied carbon calculation methodology, experience in EC3, Tally and/or OneClickLCA
