Assistant Principal Engineer

Dublin City Centre, County Dublin
€70,000 - €75,000 per annum


 Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and Signalling principles and standards.
 Experience in the Railway Industry, an ability to deal with technical and operational issues and a clear understanding of the operational railway.
 Membership of the Institute of Railway Signal Engineers or equivalent
 Extensive knowledge of signaling design standards
 Ability to produce and maintain documentation to a high standard
 Demonstrated Safety Management capability appropriate to the role and purpose of the position.

 Educated to university degree or holding a related qualification.
 Signalling design and/or commissioning experience on railway engineering projects.

 Engineering: To develop and assess technical standards and systems for signalling.
 Safety: To observe and facilitate compliance with Safety policy, standards and procedures within your sphere of influence.
 People: To ensure constant communication with all colleagues within your area and to support the People Management policy 


 Development of appropriate SET standards and technical application for signalling systems 
 Assessment of New Works schemes for compliance with SET technical standards and systems for signalling.
 Developing and assessing systems for SET work activities relating to signalling systems.
 Conduct audits to monitor compliance with standards, procedures, specifications, methods and programme of works as set down by Chief Engineer SET.
 Provision of advice and guidance on signalling and technical matters.
 Control of the custody and issue of signalling drawings and standards.

 You will completely and fully deliver your responsibilities as specified in the
Safety Responsibility Statement which accompanies this role.
 Undertake and manage, as appropriate, incident investigations as requested.
 Review on an on-going basis risks relevant to your role including both occupational and asset related risks.
 Ensure that all briefings on Signalling Safety are completed with all staff as necessary.

 Support the provision of training to staff under your control as defined in the SET-SMS-004 Competency Assessment & Training.
 Undertake responsibility for occupational safety of staff under your control.
 Provide all necessary support to staff to enable the execution of their role.
 Communicate effectively with staff to ensure proper execution of tasks.

 Plan, monitor and report on all financial aspects of those works for which you are responsible.
 Prepare and manage budgets as necessary.
 Undertake all activities in line with the Iarnród Éireann governing procurement policies and procedures.
