R & D Senior Engineer - Tooling/Process. In this role you will be responsible for the management of injection mould tooling build programs. Oversee the complete program management from concept through implementation working with cross functional teams. Establish and manage a supply base for high quality SPI class 101, 102 and 103 injection mould tools as well as highly qualified medical device moulding suppliers. Main Duties: 1. Manage injection mould tool programs from concept through product introduction. 2. Audit injection mould tool builders throughout Europe, North America and Asia. 3. Conduct mould design review with suppliers and internal customers to ensure tooling specifications are met. 4. Establish injection mould processes using scientific principals such as mould balance experiments, rheology studies and gate seal experimentation. 5. Establish part measurement techniques for mould steel sizing to achieve short term mould process capability of 1.33 Cpk or better. 6. Support new technology and product development processes and create test procedures and reports under TUV/FDA, QSR design control requirements. 7. Assist in product/process introduction, production troubleshooting, complaint investigation or individual measurement and analysis projects. 8. Ensure all products are developed in a controlled manner and adhere to global and plant procedures as well as regulatory requirements. 9. Keep up to date with current changes in technology and regulatory affairs.
Candidate Requirements for this role are: Engineering degree or equivalent with a thorough working knowledge of engineering principles / polymers essential. Minimum five years injection mould tool build management. Practical knowledge of mould making and injection mould processing. Experience in plastic fabrication processes in medical device industry highly desirable. Experience in dip/blow moulding, extrusion and/or thin film welding beneficial. Design for Six Sigma, Design for Manufacture/Assembly and Design for Test methodologies highly desirable. Effective communicator, well organized self starter, willing to work in a cross functional environment. Ability to travel internationally if and when required.
