Head of Global Life Sciences - Dublin

Our client seeks to recruit a Head of Global Life Sciences who will play a critical role in driving forward the development and growth of the global Life Sciences sector as part of the overall input to the Business Development and Marketing function while also contributing strongly to the overall achievement of the organisation's remit. This role will carry responsibility for contributing to the leadership of the organisation as a member of the Executive Committee.

The key responsibilities of the Head of Global Life Sciences are:

Provide leadership, set direction and support the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology and Medical Technologies Departments to develop and grow the Life Sciences business within Ireland to further enhance Ireland's global reputation in the business.
Provide leadership in the strategic management, implementation and integration across the organisation of national RD&I policy.
Contribute to the overall management and strategic direction of the organisation.
Drive the development & delivery of the Life Sciences strategies
Encourage strong working relationships with the other departments in order to support the infrastructural developments required to secure investments for Life Sciences
Work closely with other divisions in the areas of convergence, technology platforms and cluster related companies
Explore and drive the overall business of Life Sciences across  the value chain including Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Financial Shared Services, Clinical Trial Management, Research Development and Innovation, IP Management, Sales and Marketing, Collaborative Research
Drive the development of existing client companies and new target companies through the Client Development Process (CDP) with a key focus on quality research, opportunity identification and marketplace implementation
Work with other networks and centres to develop links and leverage Ireland's expertise in the shared National Research agenda
Contribute to and encourage the development of work on new initiatives and value propositions and help drive the application of these in the market place through the global teams

Ability to develop long-term strategy for the sector and vision the potential for Ireland across the value chain for Life Sciences
Energy and pro-activity in promoting a competitive client-focused culture, encouraging different thinking and creativity in problem solving.
Drive and determination to build a culture that places the client at the centre and balances the needs and expectations of the sector and client
Practice and encourage a culture of continuous improvements in business delivery and encourage people to think in a commercial way about the manner in which they do their work


LEADERSHIP AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT:

Project management skills in order to drive the strategy for the Business Development and Marketing Directorate in a way that creates cohesion and clarity for all teams working across the organisation.
Inspire and lead teams and others towards the achievement of goals and in the management of change divisionally and organisationally
Actively contribute ideas and solutions in the wider development of the organisation and the ability to challenge effectively the need to drive change and support the business
Ability to drive and encourage a culture of learning and development for oneself and the organisation and help to grow and nurture potential talent to ensure effective succession within the organisation.
Coach and mentor the global Life Sciences Team and others to support them in their development and learning


KNOWLEDGE:

Understand changes in the global economy and the impact on the sector and on business  generally and translate that knowledge for the benefit of the business
Understand and keep up to date with changing business models and their impact on business
Have knowledge of leadership approaches and best practice in leading an organisation and driving strategy
Have knowledge of the networking arrangements and developments within the Life Sciences sector and know the key players in the field
Know about the emerging interests and developments in Life Sciences to be able to influence strategy locally and nationally 


COMMUNICATIONS:

Ability to influence and persuade others in order to gain an agreed outcome
Highly effective interpersonal style to encourage strong performance and motivate others to generate co-operation across the global team, the wider organisation and with external bodies
To manage self effectively under pressure and with integrity at all times
To present self appropriately nationally within the sector, with the media and politically

NETWORKING:

Ability to network extensively to create opportunities for developing and building strong alliances and relationships.
Demonstrate an ability to seek out creative solutions from what others are doing and constantly be aware of new ideas and innovation.
Share leaning with teams on what is new to business development and demonstrate an ability to work with others to support the development of the sector.
